The Stair That Lengthens Time

For ARCH 151, we picked an architectural element and wrote a story about how it could change the way you move. I picked a stair and used the climb to show time passing.

The storyboard

You can usually guess how long it’ll take to get up a flight of stairs. I wanted to see what it would look like if that short climb took a whole lifetime. I drew a baby crawling at the bottom and aged the figure from one step to the next. By the top landing, they’re walking with a cane.

The 3D study

For the 3D version, I kept the figures from the storyboard and used two dimensions to measure the climb. The height shows how much time has passed. The depth shows how much time you have left before you reach the top.
